Ulteriori informazioni / contenuti	Delineations sind freie Variationen über das Thema der sieben ersten Takte. Allerdings nicht in striktem Rahmen, wie dies in der Vergangenheit üblich war. In einigen Variationen wird nur ein einziges Motiv des Originalthemas entwickelt. Das Thema, acht Variationen und die Koda folgen einander ohne Unterbruch in einem fünfteiligen Schema: schnell-langsam-schnell-langsam-schnell. Der erste Teil (Thema, Variationen I & II) ist rhythmisch, zügig, fast ein perpetuum mobile, wo die ersten drei staccato Noten des Anfangsthemas eine grosse Rolle spielen. Der zweite Teil (Variationen Ill & IV) ist langsam, lyrisch, linear und fliessend, die Stimmung ruhig und gelassen. Der Mittelteil (Variationen V & VI) bringt plötzlichen Kontrast: viel staccato, angeregt, sporadisch. Wieder bekommen die drei Motivnoten eine dominante Rolle. Im zweiten langsamen Teil (Variation VII) geht es mittels Dämpfereinsatz vor allem um Farbeffekte. Der letzte Teil (Variation VIII & Koda) ist ein rasches fugato. Delineations is a free variation form, based on the opening seven bar theme. However, it is not bound to a rigid framework as many variation forms of the past have been. Some of the variations develop only a single motive of the original theme. The theme, eight variations, and coda flow together without pause and are arranged so as to fall into a five part pattern: fast-slow-fast-slow-fast. The opening section (theme, variations I & II) is in a rhythmic, driving, almost perpetual motion style which makes extensive use of the three note staccato figure which begins the theme. The second large division (variations Ill & IV) is slow and lyrical. The writing here is very linear and flowing, and the mood is calm and serene. The central section (variations V & VI) brings a sudden contrast with much staccato tonguing in a nervous and sporadic manner. Once again, the three note motive plays the dominant role. A second slow section (variation VII) employs mutes and is concerned mainly with color effects. The final section (variation VIII & coda) is a fast moving fugato. De1ineations est basé sur le thème des sept premières mesures et n'a pas de cadre rigide, comme beaucoup de variations du passé. Dans certaines variations un seul motif du thème original est développé. Le thème, les huit variations et la coda se suivent sans interruption et sont arrangés de manière à constituer un schéma en cinq parties: rapide-lent-rapide-lent-rapide. La premiere partie (thème, variations I & II) est rythmique, conductrice, presqu'en mouvement perpétuel et fait grand usage des trois premières notes staccato du thème. La deuxieme partie (variations Ill & IV), lente et lyrique dans une écriture linéaire et fluide exprime une atmosphère calme et sereine. La partie centrale (variations V & VI) contraste soudainement avec beaucoup de staccato nerveu et sporadique. Ici encore, le motif des trois notes staccato joue un rôle primordial. Une deuxième partie lente (variation VII) joue principalement avec des effets de couleur avec l'emploi de sourdines, tandis que la partie finale (variation VIII & coda) est un fugato enjoué.
