Die vorliegende quasi vollständige Ausgabe der Serie (es fehlt nur der letzte Satz des Quintetts Nr. 12) entstand dank John Wallace, Anthony George und Anthony Rickard für die Quintette 1, 2 und 12 (mit Nr. 3 in der British Library, London, eingetragen) und dank Raymond Lapie, Besitzer der Quintette 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 und 11 und Herausgeber dieser neuen, vollständigen Edition. Das Quintett Nr. 12 wurde aus einer Ausgabe aus dem späten 19. Jahrhundert übernommen, die als Partitur in der Londoner Musikzeit-schrift 'Orpheus Journal' erschienen war. In musikalischer Hinsicht nimmt diese neue Ausgabe (mit Ausnahme der Nr. 12) Bezug auf und hält sich grundsätzlich an die - nur in Einzelstimmen erschienene - Ausgabe aus den 1850er Jahren. Für jedes Quintett wurde eine Partitur zusam-mengestellt, um eine bessere Analyse der Musik zu ermöglichen. Nur einige eindeutige Fehler und zweifelhafte Akkorde wurden korrigiert und angezeigt. Die fünf Originalinstrumente waren: 1) kleines Flügelhorn in Es (oder Trompete oder Kornett in B/A), 2) Kornett in B/A, 3) Horn, 4) Posaune 5) Ophikleïde (in B oder C). Diese Werke können heute nach Belieben auf historischen oder modernen Instrumenten gespielt werden (in letzterem Fall sollten die Lautstärken angepasst werden, vor allem, wenn Trompeten anstelle der Kornette spielen). Wie bereits in der Richault-Ausgabe vorgeschlagen, kann die Stimme des kleinen Flügelhorns auf dem Kornett gespielt werden. Die Ophikleïd-Stimme ist auf der Tuba (vorzugsweise in F) oder noch besser auf dem Euphonium oder Bass-Saxhorn spielbar. Sämtliche zu diesen Werken bekannten Details sind bei Editions Bim in einem Sonderdruck veröffentlicht (R. Lapie, 'Jean-F.-V. Bellon, 12 grosse französische Original-Blechbläser-quintette aus den Jahren 1848-50', ISBN 2-88039-017-6; vollständiger Text in Fran-zösisch, Englisch, Deutsch, Italienisch und Spanisch). These 12 quintets, composed between 1848 and 1850, were all published in Paris during the 1850's by Richault. The present, virtually complete edition of the entire series - lacking only the final movement of Quintet No. 12 - was realized thanks to the efforts of John Wallace, Anthony George and Anthony Rickard for quintets Nos. 1, 2 and 12, (which, together with No. 3, had been consigned to the British Library, London) and Raymond Lapie, owner of Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, and editor of this complete edition. Quintet No. 12 is reprinted from a later edition dating to the final years of the 19th century, and which appeared in full score form in the London musical review, 'Orpheus Journal'. From a musical standpoint, this new edition (Quintet No. 12 excepted) refers and fundamentally adheres to the original printed instrumental parts, issued without full scores in the 1850's. A full score for each quintet has been reconstructed to permit better analysis of the music. Only flagrant errors and a few doubtful chords have been indicated as such and corrected. The five instruments originally specified were: 1) a small flugelhorn in Eb (or trumpet, or piston-valve cornet in Bb/A), 2) a piston-valve cornet in Bb/A, 3) a horn, 4) a trombone and 5) an ophicleide (in Bb or C). These works may be performed today on period instruments or with modern ones, as desired; in the latter case however, it being well to adapt the dynamics, especially if trumpets replace the cornets. The Eb flugelhorn part, as specified and provided for by the Richault edition already, can also be played on piston-valve cornet. The ophicleide part is playable on tuba (preferably an F tuba) or, better still, on euphonium or bass saxhorn. A separate brochure, relating all presently known details about these works, is published by Editions Bim (Raymond Lapie, 'Jean-François-Victor Bellon, 12 major French brass quintets dating from 1848-1850, ISBN 2-88039-017-6; complete texts in French, English, German, Italian and Spanish). Ces 12 quintettes, composés entre 1848 et 1850 furent tous édités à Paris dans les années 1850 par l'éditeur Richault. L'édition quasi complète de la série (ne manque que le dernier mouvement du Quintette no. 12) a pu être réalisée grâce à John Wallace, Anthony George et Anthony Rickard pour les quintettes nos. 1, 2 et 12 (consignés avec le no. 3 à la British Library de Londres) et à Raymond Lapie, possesseur des nos. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 et 11, réalisateur de cette nouvelle édition complète. Le quintette no. 12 est repris à partir d'une édition postérieure datant de la fin du XIXe siècle et parue sous forme de partition conductrice dans la revue musicale londonienne 'Orpheus Journal'. Au niveau de la musique, ces nouvelles éditions (à l'exception du no. 12) se réfèrent et respectent fondamentalement les éditions des parties instrumentales, seules parues dans les années 1850. Une partition pour chaque quintette a été reconstituée, permettant une meilleure analyse de la musique. Seules quelques fautes flagrantes et quel-ques accords douteux ont été corrigés et indiqués. Les cinq instruments d'origine étaient: 1) un petit bugle Mib (ou trompette ou cornet à pistons en Sib/La), 2) un cornet à pistons en Sib/La, 3) un cor, 4) un trombone 5) un ophicléide (en Sib ou en Do). Ces oeuvres peuvent aujourd'hui être jouées avec des instruments historiques ou avec des instruments mo-dernes (dans ce dernier cas, il conviendra d'adapter les nuances, surtout si des trompettes remplacent les cornets à pistons), au libre choix des interprètes. La partie de petit bugle, comme déjà proposé dans l'édition Richault, peut être jouée au cornet à pistons. La partie d'ophicléide est réalisable au tuba (de préférence en Fa) ou, mieux encore, à l'euphonium ou au saxhorn basse. Tous les détails connus concernant ces oeuvres sont publiés aux Editions Bim dans une brochure tirée à part (Raymond Lapie, 'Jean-François-Victor Bellon, 12 grands quintettes de cuivres français originaux datant de 1848-1850', ISBN 2-88039-017-6; textes complets en français, anglais, allemand, italien et espagnol).
